Psychological Testing and Assessment

Psychological testing involves the systematic evaluation of an individual's cognitive, emotional, and behavioral functioning, aiming to assess and understand various aspects of their personality, intelligence, aptitude, and mental health. These assessments are conducted through a range of standardized tests and measures, administered by one of our licensed psychologists, to help diagnose and treat psychological conditions, guide educational and career planning, and contribute to a deeper understanding of human behavior and thought processes.

Neuropsychological Testing and Assessment

Neuropsychological testing is a specialized form of assessment that focuses on understanding the relationship between brain functioning and behavior. By utilizing a battery of standardized tests and measures, neuropsychological evaluations aim to identify and characterize cognitive strengths and weaknesses, as well as detect any potential neurological impairments or abnormalities. This process helps our providers diagnose and provide recommendations for the treatment of conditions such as traumatic brain injury, neurodegenerative disorders, and other neurological conditions, ultimately contributing to a more comprehensive understanding of brain-behavior relationships.

FAQs

Will my insurance cover testing?

Most psychological and neuropsychological testing is generally covered by many insurance plans that we are in-network with. However, the out-of-pocket cost to you differs depending on your specific plan, particularly if you have a deductible and/or copays. Some insurance plans also require prior authorization for testing. Call the number on the back of your insurance card to speak with your insurance directly about coverage. Please note, forensic/court-ordered assessments are not covered by insurance plans and you will be responsible for the full cost of the assessment.

What is the out-of-pocket cost for testing?

If you are paying out-of-pocket or have an out-of-network insurance, the cost of testing varies generally between $1850 and $2450, depending on the specific reason you are seeking testing and what is required to address your concerns.

When can I expect to get the final report from testing?

After testing is complete, your clinician will spend time scoring and interpreting the results from testing and will write a report outlining the findings from testing, as well as recommendations. You can expect to get this report at the time of the feedback appointment, where your clinician will walk you through the findings and answer any questions you may have. This appointment is generally 3-4 weeks after testing is complete, depending on the complexity of your case. This will be discussed more specifically at the time of testing.

What does the day of testing look like?

Testing usually will be completed all in one day over the course of 4-6 hours. However, occasionally testing is broken up over a couple of days for a variety of reasons. On the day of testing you will complete a variety of assessments that have been deemed appropriate for the type of testing you are seeking and the specific referral question(s). Often these include paper-and-pencil questionnaires, computerized questionnaires, as well as completing interactive activities with your clinician. There will be breaks provided throughout testing as needed and there is always a lunch break halfway through. Patients are encouraged to bring water or something else to drink and a snack/lunch.
